City considers Triple Crown extension

I do not know about the grocery stores, but have you ever stopped into Subway, McDonalds, Wendy's, or any other fast food place during Triple Crown Time? The line is huge most of the time. Those may not be "local" businesses, but they are certainly generating tax revenue.

Also, I assume these people are sleeping somewhere? So that means hotel rooms are being paid for.

Seems to me that they are generating revenue.

Turn Guam's trash into energy source

Due to the worldwide energy crisis there is a sense of urgency for seeking new energy sources for Guam and the other islands in the region.

With increasing concern over the supply of fossil fuels to generate power plants, as well as the environmental implications of burning coal and oil, the most economical and environmentally acceptable source of fuel for our island could be methane gas.

Leaders offer up predictions for '08

Detroit Mayor "Kwame Kilpatrick will file a paternity lawsuit against Roger Penske, claiming to be Penske's illegitimate son. Kwame will balance his budget one way or another."

ROBERT FICANO, Wayne County executive:

• "A plan to expand Cobo Center WILL be approved in 2008."

JERRY YORK, adviser to Las Vegas billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian, former chief financial officer of Chrysler and IBM, former board member of General Motors and current board member of Apple, is mulling these issues heading into 2008:

• "What will U.S. auto industry volume/incentive spending per unit be in 2008? (I am betting on an industry of 15.25 million to 15.5 million units.)"

• "What will the domestic three (automakers') North American profitability/cash flow be in 2008? And will Cerberus stick to its publicly announced plans to treat Chrysler as a long-term investment?"

• "Will the domestic three increase their product renewal rates in the 2009 to 2011 period to stabilize their North American market shares?"

• "Will the domestic three begin taking any more meaningful actions to eliminate troubled brands and/or reduce dealer body sizes?"

Health care shopping gets a new meaning

The Quick Care Clinic is located inside the Dahl's grocery store at 3400 E. 33rd St., but its clients don't always treat the walk-in clinic like a pit stop on the way to the cereal aisle.

As often as not the clinic is their primary destination, said physician's assistant John Olson.

"I see this as its own unique set-up," Olson said of the walk-in clinic, one of the several kinds of settings he's worked in during his 34 years as a physician's assistant.

Alpine kids cherish ‘high speed' challenge

The kids from the BSSEF Alpine race team jumped out of the cars, swimsuits in hand. Tomorrow they race, but tonight it's swimming at the White Sulphur Hot Springs pool, chowing down on a burger and fries, and enjoying the fun that traveling to a new ski area brings.

The Super G competition at Showdown is famous among Montana kids for its long sloping run, its funky hometown ambiance and of course, the fun of the high speed! They look forward to it all year and can't wait to go again once it's over.

This year was no exception and BSSEF's mighty team of 10 kids represented our town with top honors, lots of smiles and great sportsmanship. Young J6 Alexa Coyle set the bar by placing first in her division. Her teammate Valerie Hetherington kept a firm hold on second place and together they topped the podium all three days.
